life is tough

sorry I have not posted in a looooooooooooooong time and I will not wast your time with excuses. Insted I will simply inform everyone not to expect many posts. (if you haven't already figured that out you must be new to my blog) So I only spend about 5 min. online a day. And none of that time is in the evening which is the only time when I have nothing to do. So check in if you want but keep your expectations low.

It's amazing to me how much my life has changed in the last few months. I have new priorities, new friends, new living quarters, a new lifestyle really. Some things don't change, like my devotion to God and my love for family and friends. I still enjoy many of the stme things but there are new skils I have learned and old skills no longer in use. I still meet with God each day but the time has changed. I wish I had more time to write about what's going on in my life each day to help keed interested parties informed and I wish I had time to read all of your blogs to keep up with your lives as well. But with the way things are right now I don't think that wil be happening. If you do want to chat or catch up the best way is to give me a call. If you don't have my cell number ask around ( just don't want to post my number).

An Endless Supply of Post Kids

I had a great time this morning out on the water. Though I was a little tired at the beginning of the day and though I am tied now, there was a time in the late morning when I was at peek strength. Fortunately, for me and everyone else, it was at this time the Post children (who were visiting yesterday and today) decided they wanted to ride Jet Skis. It all started with a short innocent ride. I took one of the boys out and …let him drive the whole time! Me, not knowing this was something special went so far as to “let him drive faster than even his dad”. I should have known I was doomed from that moment but at his time I still thought I was almost done. But no, as soon as I arrived back at the beach I had kids lined up to greet me with shouts of “I want to ride with Jeff!”
Before I knew it I was ferrying kids back and forth in the jet ski from the beach out onto the bay where I would ride on the back trying to find something to hold onto while they had the time of their life jumping wakes, speeding across the water, and trying their best to miss the other watercraft then back to shore to pick up another. I feel like I must the given about 60 rides this morning but in reality it was only 4. However, at one point there seem to be an endless supply of Post kids and I was beginning to feel like the little boy at the feeding of the 5,000. I know there are only 4 Post kids +2 friends but looking back I must have gone out more, why else would I be so exhausted? Well enough deliberation on this. My life is great, I’m enjoying it and I now have something to post.

Sorry, I've been out of touch for a while but I hope, now that I am back in the real world of internet access, I will be able to begin posting again soon.

Locked?

Today is the day. I am officially posting my first-ever blog. Ahem (throat cleared, may progress). So today, I began my preparations for the girl’s week invasion of Tuckerton, NJ. For those of you who don’t know, my parents just bought another house in NJ and so I am seizing it to host 20 or so girls. Since “we” just closed on the place a few weeks ago furniture is sadly lacking. That means (for those of you in Rio Lindo) there is none. Therefore, being the wonderful hostess that I am, I thought it would be nice for as many of the girls as possible to have mattresses to sleep on. So this morning Rachel and I loaded “our” Yukon up from floor to ceiling (literally) with mattresses of every sort and description and blankets and sheets and folding cots and a hose. Then we loaded five kayaks (after Kevin kindly—that’s for brandon—loaned us one) onto our jet ski trailer and spent most of the day bungy-ing and strapping and tying the suckers down in an attempt to keep them ON the trailer. Finally, we climbed into our laden truck, pulled out of the driveway and headed south. I do like heading south. A half-an-hour or so later I suddenly thought to myself, “self, I wonder if ‘little blue’ (that’s the house’s name—yes “we” name things) is locked.” Uh-oh. No keys and here we are over half-way there and arghhhh, I don’t want to have to make this trip again… what will we ever do? Dilemma. On I drove, however, because the kayak load was precarious enough that I wanted to deliver it sooner rather than later. On arriving at the aforementioned “little blue” it became evident that no breaking in would occur in the event of lockage-outage due to the style of windows (the kind made up of a zillion three inch wide strips of glass—old style and leak air like sieves). I mean even if we could force one open I am certainly wider than three inches and I think Rachel is too. The moment of truth descended *drumroll* Rachel reached out a tentative hand and the porch door opened! However, the house itself was firmly secured against all honest folks, so while we could not set up the bedding we were able to dump it all on the porch (which is really a large finished, but unheated room) to wait for us to come back tomorrow and set it all up. And we are going back tomorrow anyway, so no added trip. So basically, I just yanked all y’alls chains with all that drama. But after all, isn’t that the joy of blogging?

Leaving for good???

I’m having a new experience. I am entering a new phase of my life and I’m still not quite sure what to make of it. The situation is that I may be, right now, spending my last three days living at home. In some ways it’s not that big a deal. I’ve spent most of the last 8 years of my life away from home. I have lived over seas for 9 months before. But it was always with the understanding that I would come back home to live…until the next thing came along. But this time it is different I could be gone *drum roll*…. FOREVER (with visits). I don’t even know if this truly will be my last time living at home but it’s just the first time it has been a possibility.

For those of you who don’t know, after the Family Convention I am planning to start working in New Jersey. I will be going on a provisional bases to see how things work out, but the possibility exists that I could be there for quite some time, maybe get my own apartment or something. So even though it might not be the final farewell to my happy home here in Georgia it could be the closing of a phase in my life, a phase that though I am fond of I will give it up in hopes of better things to come.

Hot or Cold?

Sabbath is coming and I couldn’t be happier. But it’s not here yet and I still have time for a post. Normally, writing a little something would not be work and it might not even be work tomorrow, but tonight, it would be work. So I do it now.

At this time I recall for you a conversation my brother(R) and I had yesterday, in order to give you a glimpse into the mind of a southerner. I know many of my readers are Yankees and can’t help that fact, for that reason, I don’t hold it against you.

Yesterday afternoon here in sunny Georgia the heat toped out at about 96 degrees and the humidity was kinda low, only about 80%. R and I were out working in full sunshine, I’m running a tiller and he’s cutting up a tree he dropped. Were both perspiring like we’re trying to put the water hose out of a job. Seriously, I was having a hard time keeping it off my face enough to see. At one point we are both in the same area picking up some debris I had tilled up and the point is raised that it is quite hot. We both seem to agree on this point but it’s mentioned that it’s not as bad as it could be because the humidity is down a little. I remember saying that I thought it was not over about 88 degrees (wrong again). The moment reminded me of my time in Brazil last summer when I was out in intense heat most days. Then, taking care to make sure the statement was accurate, I said that I would rather be this hot than it to be 0 degrees. R agreed. There you have it, a southerner would rather be hot than cold. It is more appealing to me to be drenched in sweat than to be bundled up to fight off hypothermia. Now I don’t want anyone thinking I’m a wimp, I can do cold (I’ve camped out in -20). Just straight preferences, I prefer to not have to deal with the freezing temperatures. If that means I have to deal with heat and humidity, bring it on.

I welcome all comments. Tell me what you prefer and why.

Stupid Day

Do you ever have stupid days, days where you mean to get something done and you even think you might but then somehow the whole day slips by and BEHOLD you have done nothing? This being the current working definition of a “stupid day” here at Mission Brown I proclaim my self to have had a “stupid day”.

It all started with my brother’s(R) watch, which he left in the car. This would not be such a big deal except that we rely on his alarm to wake us up every morning. But because I was out late playing volleyball and really tired, I just kept sleeping until well after I was supposed to get up. Of course when I found out it was raining I didn’t feel too bad (I am currently working outside and so rain shuts me down).

Anticipating the rains speedy demise I began puttering about my room doing a little cleaning/ straightening job. This is just the kind of thing that truly makes a day “stupid”. I could never allow myself to get too involved in a project and in fact had to skip over things that needed to be done because at any minute the rain was going to stop and I was going to go do “real work”. Sadly the rain kept up a slow, halting, drizzle for most of the morning. By the time it quit for real it was almost lunch time and there was not enough time to get started before I would have to stop. Then, because I was home, I prepared lunch (why not?). After lunch, clean up, and waiting for my mom to get back home so I could leave my younger sister(R) with her. I was not going to be able to do both the landscaping and the repair on the yard hydrant (two separate jobs in different locations). To make matters worse, when I chose the repair over landscaping and started loading tools, the wind picked up and the sky grew dark with the threat of rain. Nothing was keeping me back at this point however and so I drove out fully intending to accomplish something even if I had to do it….drum roll….WET! So I replaced the broken water line and only got a light sprinkling. Kind of an anticlimactic end after I spent all that emotional energy deciding I was going to do it no matter what. But I did feel better about myself knowing I had accomplished a small task. Over all however it was still a day to be stupefied and will go down in the history books as such.

Bees, not long for this world

I never thought blogging would take up so much time. All yesterday I was analyzing situations trying to gauge their posting potential. Not in every situation but in more than a few I was even beginning to write out the story in my head to check out the funny factor. Sadly, many of my ideas flopped before even starting but there is still hope.

I was cutting grass for my Aunt Bertha, (yes I have an Aunt Bertha, don’t laugh) she’s 101 and has a big pasture out back that my family keep cut for her. So for most of the morning I drove around in circles destroying the habitat of millions of tiny and not so tiny creatures. Anyway, perhaps because of Brad’s post earlier this week or maybe because of a particularly bad experience I had with bees in that same field a few years ago. Needless to say I had my eyes in the buggers and I became increasingly concerned for their continued existence on this planet. There were no fewer than 30 bees buzzing around and every one thought it its duty to pollinate the flower directly in front of my mower. At first, while the uncut grass was quite expansive, I would see this take place only every minute or so. But as the area of tall grass became smaller and smaller I started to run over and knock bees from their perch with such regularity that I began to suspect there was a concerted effort to get in my way. You see, that’s what I’m talking about, why did the bees not just go to the other unmowed field a few hundred yards away. I suspect these particular bees to be either kamikazes or incredibly stupid, the life expectancy for either is quite short.

what a way to start

I have now been sucked in, is there no turning back. I should have known it would happen sooner or later. And so here I am late at night with almost nothing else to do( I mean nothing fun, there is always work) posting on my new blog. I hope the word will spread and everyone will get as much enjoyment as possible from my posts…it’s really all about you guys *sniff*

Now that I am here I don't know really what I'm supposed to do, but keep looking and I'm sure I will come up with something.
